Adm. Philippe de Gaulle, the oldest child of the French wartime leader and former president Charles de Gaulle, died on Wednesday in Paris. His death was confirmed by the Élysée Palace, the seat of the French presidency. His son Yves told the newspaper Le Figaro that he died “on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday” at the Institution Nationale des Invalides, the historic French veterans hospital in central Paris. The French Navy’s official Twitter account said Admiral de Gaulle died on Wednesday. Admiral de Gaulle spent his life in the shadow of his father, France’s wartime savior and the founder of its Fifth Republic, despite his own illustrious record in the French Resistance and his distinguished military career afterward.

Rome CNN —An Italian mafia boss who escaped from a maximum security prison last year by using bed sheets to scale the walls has been captured in France, authorities say. Marco Raduano, the 40-year-old boss of the Gargano Mafia in the southern Italian region of Puglia, was caught Thursday outside a luxury restaurant in Bastia, Corsica, where he was dining with a female companion. Also apprehended was his right-hand man, Gianluigi Troiano, who fled house arrest in 2021 after detaching his electronic bracelet. Raduano’s escape by tying bed sheets from his prison window just under a year ago was caught on the penitentiary’s surveillance cameras. The escape lasted 16 seconds and he fled on foot with no guards noticing or giving chase, which led to an internal investigation of the maximum security prison.

PARIS, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Paris police shot and critically wounded a woman wearing a hijab in a metro station on Tuesday morning, after commuters reported her shouting Jihadist slogans and behaving in a threatening manner, the government said. The fully-veiled woman was shot at the Bibliotheque Nationale de France station. The fire service, which provided emergency care for the woman, said she was shot in the abdomen. The metro station, on the RER C line, was evacuated after the incident, police said. Two investigations were opened, one against the woman and a second into the use of weapons by police, the government spokesman said.

On Tuesday, Apple gave its fullest explanation yet of the discrepancy between France's findings and those in other countries where the iPhone 12 has been approved for sale. In a statement, Apple said that the iPhone 12 is still safe to use even without the software update. "We want all iPhone 12 users to know that iPhone 12 is safe to use and always has been. IPhone 12 was certified to meet applicable worldwide energy transmission regulations and standards when it first shipped in 2020 and no changes have been made since then that would affect energy transmission," Apple said in the statement.

LONDON, Sept 13 (Reuters) - France's radiation watchdog has banned sales of Apple's (AAPL.O) iPhone 12 after tests that it said showed the smartphone breached European radiation exposure limits. Apple disputes the watchdog's conclusions, saying the iPhone 12 was certified by multiple international bodies as compliant with global radiation standards. The ANFR said it recently carried out random tests on 141 phones, including iPhone 12, bought from shops. Smartphone radiation tests have so far led to 42 imposed sale stops in the country, it said. The ANFR said the iPhone 12 had failed to meet European Union standards, raising questions over whether more sales bans could be coming elsewhere.

Operatorii de turism din Grecia estimează o scădere a veniturilor din cauza noului val al pandemiei COVID-19, provocat de varianta Delta, mai agresivă și mai contagioasă. Multe dintre noile infectări sunt în rândul tinerilor şi medicii avertizează asupra riscului unui nou val epidemic, alimentat de varianta Delta. Practic, iunie a fost prima lună a sezonului turistic grecesc în 2021, iar datele despre numărul de călători care intră sunt extrem de încurajatoare, a spus ministrul. Nimeni nu știe, deocamdată, cât de puternic vor reacționa guvernele naționale și UE și dacă vor decide reviziurea politicilor de călătorie. După ce ANRE a aprobat noua Metodologie de calculare a prețului la produsele, producătorii nu pot să se asigure cu motorină cu prețuri angro. Ministerul Agriculturii cere instituțiilor abilitate să intervină în metodologia de calcul la produsele petroliere pentru a nu permite periclitarea recoltării culturilor agricole. Altfel, agricultorii ne-au preîntâmpinat că vor lua măsuri drastice prin ocuparea drumurilor și protestelor masive”, a declarat Ion Perju. Un document cu privire la metogologia de calcul și aplicare a prețurilor la produsele petroliere a fost aprobat în ședința de luni, 14 iunie, a Consiliului de Administrare a ANRE. Hotărârea privind aprobarea Metodologiei de calcul și aplicare a prețurilor la produsele petroliere urmează să intre în vigoare începând cu data de 01.07.2021.

– Cât de liber gândesc și cât de liber pot alege cetățenii din stânga Nistrului? – Convingerea mea rămâne aceeași: atâta timp cât Armata Rusă rămâne stăpână pe o parte a R. Moldova, noi nu putem spera să avem o societate liberă, deschisă. Încă de pe atunci m-am adresat la autoritățile oficiale ale R. Moldova, dar fără vreun rezultat. Cer ca partea stângă a Nistrului să fie tratată pe poziții egale cu partea dreaptă. Aceeași situație e și în satul meu, Lunga, raionul Dubăsari, sat care rămâne ocupat de separatiști.
